Centre forms Committee on ‘One Nation, One Election’; former Prez Ram Nath Kovind to head it

New Delhi, Sep 01 (ANI): Union government has constituted a ‘One Nation, One Election’ Committee on September 01. The committee has been formed under the chairmanship of former President Ram Nath Kovind. Committee will explore the possibility which envisages holding of general, states polls simultaneously. Sources said that the committee will explore the possibility of bringing legislation regarding it. A parliamentary standing committee, Law Commission & Niti Ayog had earlier examined and submitted reports on subject. Speaking on the issue, Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav expressed his dissatisfaction with appointment of former Prez. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi asked opposition to have a detailed discussion. The Central Govt has decided to call a Special Session of Parliament from September 18-22. It is also speculated that the government could bring a bill for detailed deliberation ‘One Nation, One Election’. Meanwhile, AIMIM Chief Owaisi rejected the possibility of ‘one election’ bill and called it “unconstitutional”. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has several times pitched the idea of One Nation, One Election.
