Nov 06, 2026

Hanoi [Vietnam], November 6: In her 50s, singer Dong Dao is busy juggling many roles, from artistic activities and business to teaching vocal music and taking care of her family.
Sharing her secret to balancing multiple roles simultaneously, Dong Dao revealed that it all stems from her personal passion. "The life of an artist, ultimately, can be summed up in two words: passion," the 70s-era singer expressed.
Dong Dao's enduring journey
According to Dong Dao, when you truly love a job, you think less about the difficulties or fatigue. Her love for art, teaching, business, and family has become the driving force behind her busy life. Every time she returns to Vietnam, the singer takes the opportunity to create many musical products, from recordings to videos, as gifts for her audience.
Besides her artistic activities, Dong Dao also maintains a flexible approach to teaching vocal music. Students who can afford it attend in-person classes when she is in Vietnam or the US, while for those who live far away, the singer arranges online classes to ensure uninterrupted teaching. No matter where she is, Dong Dao strives to maintain connection to ensure everything continues uninterrupted.
However, despite her constant traveling schedule, family remains an important part of the singer's life. Sharing about her two grown sons, Dong Dao said she still calls them regularly to check on them.
"Even when they're grown up, children are still their mother's children. My two sons have grown up, but in my eyes, they're still very young, so I'm always worried," the singer confided. Therefore, the flights between the two countries not only serve her work but also allow the 70s-era singer to maintain her presence in the lives of her loved ones.
Dong Dao believes that Vietnam is not only where she grew up and built her career, but also holds important memories and milestones in her life. "My roots are still in Vietnam. My love is still for the Vietnamese audience. The Vietnamese audience are my benefactors, so I always feel very grateful," Dong Dao shared.
The singer also has to reconcile two seemingly opposing aspects of herself: the sensitivity of an artist and the strength of a woman bearing many responsibilities. The 70s-era singer said that her artistic soul sometimes makes her easily emotional, but responsibility to her children helps her learn to be more resilient.
Dong Dao shared that her children have grown up and sometimes worry about her even more. Because in the family, the female artist is the only woman, seen as a pillar of support that needs to be loved and protected. Even so, her love for her profession and pride in her artistic journey have given her the strength to overcome difficulties. "I can't give up my profession, nor can I give up my work. That's why I have to try to balance things," she confided.
One of the things Dong Dao is particularly concerned about when raising her children in a foreign environment is preserving Vietnamese family values. According to the singer, even though her children are growing up in an environment that values independence, she always teaches them to see family as a place to return to, to gather together and love each other. Phone calls and messages in the family chat group become ways for family members to update each other on their lives and stay connected every day.
"Even if I travel far and wide, family is still the place I must return to, the place where we must gather and be united," Dong Dao shared. The singer believes that while people can access many modern cultures, learn and develop in different living environments, family love still needs to be preserved.
