The US lost 57.6 billion USD due to natural disasters this year

Sep 13, 2023

Washington [US], September 13: Official data released by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) earlier this week showed that in the past 8 months, the US has suffered 23 extreme weather and climate disasters, according to AFP.
Although there are still 4 months left until the end of the year, the 2023 figures have surpassed the previous record of 22 events in 2020. The most prominent of the above disasters are floods in California in the spring, fires in the state Hawaii in August and Hurricane Idalia made landfall in Florida on August 30. According to NOAA, the above natural disasters caused 253 deaths and more than 57.6 billion USD (1.39 million billion VND) in damage.
Successive natural disasters are undeniable evidence of the increasingly serious impact of climate change . The European Union climate monitoring agency last week warned that 2023 could be the hottest year in human history.
