South-west Finland's helicopter crash query that killed five begins
May 19, 2025
Copenhagen [Denmark], May 19: Investigators are working to determine why two helicopters collided and crashed in south-west Finland on Saturday, killing five people, authorities told reporters at a press conference on Sunday.
Both helicopters were equipped with recorders, but their contents have not yet been analysed, authorities said, according to a report from the Finnish broadcaster Yle.
"There is practically no information about the cause of the accident at this early stage. It is likely either a technical issue, human error, or a combination of both," said Tiina Bieber, communications manager of the Finnish Accident Investigation Board (Otkes). Investigators said the two civilian helicopters involved in the crash were flying together from Tallinn's Linnahall helipad in Estonia to Piikajarvi airfield in Kokemaki, Finland. (DPA)
