President Trump will 'take action to resolve conflict with North Korea'

Jun 28, 2025

New York [US], June 28: US President Donald Trump said the US would "resolve the risk of conflict with North Korea if it comes to that", while reiterating that he has a good relationship with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
Speaking at an event in the Oval Office of the White House on June 27, President Trump emphasized his efforts to resolve global conflicts, according to Reuters.
Asked if he would write a letter to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un , the US leader did not answer the question directly, but said: "I have a good relationship with Kim Jong-un and get along very well with him. So we'll see what happens next."
"If there is a possibility of conflict, I think we will resolve it," Mr. Trump affirmed.
The US president's statement came after NK News , a website that monitors North Korea , reported that the North Korean delegation to the United Nations had repeatedly refused to receive a letter from Mr. Trump to Mr. Kim.
Mr Trump's comments came at an event attended by top diplomats from Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, who signed a US-brokered peace deal that day in an effort to end decades of conflict between the two neighbors, according to Yonhap.
The White House said on June 11 that Mr. Trump would welcome renewed contact with Mr. Kim, but did not confirm whether any letters had been sent. During his second term, Mr. Trump expressed a desire to resume dialogue with the North Korean leader, raising hopes of a resumption of diplomacy between the two sides.
During his first term (2017-2021), Mr. Trump and Mr. Kim met at three summits in Singapore (June 2018), Vietnam (February 2019) and the inter-Korean border village of Panmunjom (June 2019). However, these diplomatic efforts have not yet achieved significant results.
