Male (Maldives) Dec 09: President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has appointed Hussain Shameem to the post of Prosecutor General.
The letter of appointment was presented to the new Prosecutor General at a ceremony held at the President's Office Sunday afternoon. His oath was administered by Supreme Court Justice Dr. Azmiralda Zahir.
The appointment was made as per Article 221 of the Constitution and Article 3 of the Prosecutor General's Act after the parliament voted in favour of the appointment on Saturday.

He has served as the Deputy Prosecutor General in the past, and did important work at the office when it was first established.
Shameem becomes the fourth Prosecutor General to be appointed in the country's history. The first PG was attorney Ahmed Muizzu, who was succeeded by Muthuthaz Muhusin. Aishath Bisham was the third PG, after whose resignation prompted Shameem's appointment.
Hussain Shameem holds a Master of Laws in Criminal Law and Criminal Justice from the University of Sussex, the United Kingdom, and a Bachelor of Arts in Shari'a and Law from the Al-Azhar University in Egypt.
