Deshbandhu College Hosts National Workshop on Contemporary Media and Journalism

New Delhi [India], October 6: Deshbandhu College, University of Delhi, successfully organized a three-day National Workshop on Contemporary Media and Journalism, 27th-29th September, 2025, bringing together over 100 participants from various colleges to engage with leading voices from the media industry. From the impact of artificial intelligence on newsrooms to the rise of mobile journalism, the workshop brought together some of India's most respected media voices to inspire and challenge the next generation of journalists.
The workshop aimed to explore the rapidly evolving landscape of journalism, technology, and digital storytelling. The event was inaugurated with a welcome address by Prof. Sunil Kayesth, vice-Principal of Deshbandhu College & also the Program Advisor, followed by words of wisdom by Sh. Awadhesh Tiwari, Amplus Infotainment Pvt. Ltd, after which a brief Introduction of this Workshop was given by Dr. Deepti Gupta, Program Convenor The Chief Guest, Sh. Rajesh Sundaram (Chief Editor, PTI) delivered Inaugural talk on "News Gathering and Interpretation in New Age" wherein he drew a sharp parallel between the primitive techniques used in Journalism with the innovative technologies used in present times. The Guest of Honor, Sh. Samir Kumar (CEO, Cliq India Media Pvt. Ltd.) explored the impact of AI on modern media & emphasized on balancing the parallel use of AI & ethics. In the last session of the day, Mr. Uma Shankar (Independent Journalist & former senior News editor NDTV) introduced participants to the growing role of Mobile Journalism & demonstrated his MOJO kit. Mr. Narendra Kumar & Ms. Sonam Tomar, Program Co-Convenors and Dr Manish Kumar showed their gratitude towards respective speakers of the day.
Day Two focused on digital tools and newsroom practices, featuring Mr. Rahul Chandna (Times Now) on Graphics and AI, who wowed the participants with live demo of use of animation & graphics in News Media. Ms. Romana Isar Khan (senior editor cum anchor. ABP News) unpacked her powerful treasure about Art of Interviewing & Scripting, wherein she emphasized on Art of Keeping News Short & Simple and in the end, star anchor Mr. Sayeed Ansari (senior editor cum anchor, Aaj Tak) brought the energy of the newsroom alive with his engaging session on anchoring in the digital era. Chairpersons, Prof. Biswajit Mohanty, Prof. Roshni Rajamohan, Prof. Seema Gupta chaired the sessions & gave vote of thanks to respective speakers of the day.
The final day featured Sh. Awadhesh Tiwari (Amplus Infotainment Pvt. Ltd.) delivering back-to-back sessions on Investigative Journalism and Documentary Filmmaking & shared real life experiences from the field. The workshop concluded with a powerful Valedictory Address by Prof. (Dr.) K. G. Suresh, Director, IHC, Ex-DG, IIMC, on the theme "Infodemic", highlighting the journalist's role in combating misinformation. Prof. Kamal Gupta & Varsha Baweja chaired the sessions & gave vote of thanks to respective speakers. Sh. Santosh Kr. Taneja, Chairman, Deshbandhu College, gave a conclusive speech on how to keep pace with the new challenges in life followed by Report reading by Dr. Chhotu Ram Meena & Vote of Thanks by Dr Deepti Gupta, Workshop Convenor.
Speaking after the event, students praised the workshop for being "eye-opening," "practical," and "inspiring," noting that the sessions helped them connect classroom learning with the realities of modern media. The workshop provided a vibrant platform for learning, skill-building, and networking, equipping young media aspirants with insights into contemporary journalistic practices and technological advancements.
